Getting in touch with new students and strengthening your business relationships – match2blue for institutions & enterprises

31. Mai 2010

On this blog, we also want to give you a few examples how institutions and enterprises can use applications ‘mobilized by match2blue’. Learn how your company or school can use location-based social networking in real time to facilitate your communication.

First case: Universities and schools

Universities can use an application ‘mobilized by match2blue’ as a way for students on the campus to interact with each other. Students can check who else in the library, at the bookstore, or in the student cafeteria is a member of the community and get useful answers to questions like “Which book can be recommended for the US history course?”

Freshman can easily get in touch with each other, just as students who share common interests. Thanks to match2blue’s technology, users get all the information in real time. So if you see a cute guy or a hot girl in the hall you can contact them straight away and might get an answer – a nice alternative for endless waiting for response when contacting them via a web-based social network.

Privacy concerns are of course an issue – but everyone can choose whether they want to be a part of the community or not. So it is always mandatory that the community provider gives the participants the ability to choose beforehand. This assures that every community member remains the control over their own data.

Second case: Companies

One of the best ways to help your employees succeed is to give them tools that make their job easier. match2blue could be one of those tools. In past times, you had to write e-mails and wait for the response. match2blue’s real time ability facilitates your employees’ interaction as they can communicate without a time delay. Or imagine yourself being on a business trip – by using match2blue’s location-based feature you can locate your colleagues if they are nearby and get in touch with them. Communication within the company gets easier and faster.

Alternatively, you can also engage with your customers. By using a location-based social network as a customer relationship management tool, companies can get in touch with their clients in the most direct way. They can use match2blue’s targeted messaging function to contact them and provide them with the information they need. Keeping your customers up-to-date has never been easier and more fun.

In the times of smartphones and Social Media getting in touch with other students and strengthening your business relationships can be so easy. Mobilize your way of social networking and discover a new generation of social interaction.

How to get information in real time?

14. Mai 2010

The flow of information in the web how it is working nowadays is currently changing drastically and people want to have information in real time. Soon people might not be interested in five minutes time, but they are now so getting that timely data to them is imperative. When the web is all about what people are doing, what they are saying right now, then a different way of handling that data is required. The information flow will become so real-time that traditional search will be obsolete. That’s going to become more and more important on the web generally. The information sources you want, the data will be pushed to you and will become available immediately.

Change is under way to help the web cope with this growth and help some parts of it cope better in a real-time age. The change comes in the form of software specifications known as the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP). Despite the complicated name, XMPP does a very simple thing. Whereas the web, via HTTP, asks for information on behalf of an individual, XMPP makes sure everyone is told.

German airline Lufthansa has turned to an XMPP-based service for its high-value customers. The technology lies behind an instant messaging application that it provides to its most frequent flyers. “They can use it all around the world where ever they are to ask a question,” said Stephanie Renda, CEO of match2blue which built the messaging application. ”These mobile users expect to receive information at the right time and in the right place,” said Renda. “They do not want to search. The information must find the customer not the other way around.”

Wanna go to the Expo 2010? Don’t forget your cell phone.

3. Mai 2010

As previously announced, we now want to give you some details about our innovative application MemberScout. As I was thinking about the benefits of our app my attention was caught by this week’s news. On Saturday, one of the biggest events of the world was opened in Shanghai – the Expo 2010. Now I don’t know how about you but I personally love going to the expo. I had been to the expo in Hanover 10 years ago and it was amazing – always a great event to get to know more about other cultures and a great opportunity to try good food.

When I remember my trip to the World’s Fair 10 years ago I realize that nowadays people have the chance to visit the exhibition in a totally different way than in the year 2000. Back then, the internet was, well, not new but not EVERY household had a broadband internet access. Cell phones used to be pretty simple – you could make calls with them but it was far away from 3G. At the expo, we were always in a hurry – running from one pavilion to the next, mainly relying on our small maps.

Today, if you are going to the expo you got multiple opportunities. Imagine, you want to go but none of your friends wants to join you – no problem. Just ask your mobile phone. With a useful tool like MemberScout you can now easily meet other people who share your interests. Just press the “Ask other scouts” button and find out who is going to the fair – if there are some cool people, why not go with them? Or get some information about the pavilions which meet your interests – just ask other people who are also attending the fair. Overall, it is a convenient way to have a fun day – just take your mobile phone, save time and meet new people.

It’s good to live in the year 2010. Have a nice trip to the Expo.

Affected by the cloud of ash, anyone?

21. April 2010

Unless you have been sleeping under a stone for the last couple of days you just couldn’t escape the news about the grey cloud coming from Iceland which has been covering almost the whole of Europe for over a week now. Probably you are a victim of nature’s latest strike against travel-mad civilization and are stuck in an airport in the middle of nowhere where you wanted to relax from your boss for two days until get back to work in Warsaw or Stockholm 2000 miles away.

Affected travelers shouldn’t lose hope – there are a lot of ways to deal with the forces of nature in the year 2010. The most popular one in the last couple of days is simply networking – it is extremely likely that you are not the only person among thousands sitting in the concourse in an airport in Central Europe and wanting to get to Rome as fast as possible. And that’s exactly what travelers are doing at the moment – engaging, exchanging, socializing. People search actively for travel mates or ask for tips from others on how to make the best of a bad situation, as Online Social Media reports. And with the help of mobile social networking tools for smartphones, like Miles & More MemberScout, every smartphone user can find a travel companion. This application, with which travelers can simply search for other travelers near their current location or arrange a common trip, has experienced an enormous response in the last two days. Posts like “How is the situation at the MUC airport?” or “Anybody stuck in Oslo and looking for a way to Rome?” were flooding the member-helps-member section of the application. Requests like “Anybody going from Zurich to Helsinki?” resulting in spontaneous ride sharing, apart from the usual Taxi Sharing function, which had been transformed into an Anything-That-Moves-Sharing function. The app, especially adjusted to the requirements of frequent flyers, almost seems to be as firm as a rock in the face of the disaster by giving travelers a ray of hope on the (ash grey) horizon.

Miles & More launches new app powered by match2blue

19. März 2010

We are really excited to announce that Miles & More just recently launched its “Miles & More MemberScout” Version 2.0 powered by match2blue. Right now the app is available in the Apple App Store. But Blackberry users don‘t worry, a BlackBerry version will be available soon. The app is for frequent travelers who can engage with other travelers and access useful information on their travels. Users can recommend some remarkable places to eat or stay and the best places to visit and of course also get information from others. All this happens in real time, so you can access your profile on your arrival at the airport and search for other people to share a taxi together to get to the city center. Members get customized information through our „matching-engine“ – an automatic reconciliation of the transferred information.

Based on the Miles & More MemberScout app we want to provide you a deeper insight into our technology and the features we developed and use for our customers. So we decided to present some of our features more detailed and individually including the technology behind it during the next couple of weeks.

We also just released a press release together with Progress Apama about the app and its possibilities. And Lufthansa released a press release themselves to promote the app that can be found on the Lufthansa Website. Moreover the weekly German magazine “Werben und Verkaufen” just chose MemberScout as the App of the week. Thanks a lot guys! So there is a lot going on at the moment for us and we are really excited about it. Stay tuned!
